Been seeing plenty of struting gobblers in the fields on my drives lately. Great to see a big ole tom all puffe up for his hens. Only thing better is to be out there watching the show in person. My family and I have he last hunt, 234, and re looking forward to heading out in search ofour turkeys this spring.
I’ve heard quite a few good reports of folks getting their birds this spring. Got a phone call Sunday from a client who bought a piece from me couple years ago. Him and his friend both tagged out on the property last weekend. I believe one was 10 1/8, the other 8 3/4. I also have a good riend who tagged one in St Clair County that was a beast, 11 ” beard and over 23 lbs. Lastly, another client of mine sent me pics of a couple toms he and a buddy took of a 60 acre parcel in Lapeer County he bought last year. Keep the stories and pics coming folks, gotta fill my trophy page!

Hey, looks like I may be having a couple leases available soon. Working with a gentleman from the Flint area on setting up a couple leases on land down near Holly. One 42 acre parcel and another at 116 acres. Actually they are connected, so if you’re looking for a large parcel to hunt, but not a long drive these may be the ticket. I’ll be sure to get them updated as soon as the ink dries.

Got a chance to explore some hunting land near Caro yesterday. Property is located on Wilder Rd and if you’re looking for a wild knarly parcel of deer and duck hunting land that parcel is right up your alley. The woods was still a bit wet on our walk about yesterday, but no doubt there was deer sign aplenty. Lots of runs all tracked up. Pretty good location, as the parcel is surrounded on three sides by state game area land and the fourth side is a large area of farm land. This property is one I have listed on my website over on Wilder Rd in Tuscola County.

Amazing place, there are spots where you can stand atop bluffs and look down nearly 200 feet to the river below. Unbelievable someplace like that is here in the thumb. Anyhow, it was a treat for me to get to share that place with others. Standing on those bluffs it’s as if all your cares just sort of slip away. Oh yeah, Scott, that was a LONG climb back up!!

Wow last week was busy. Seemed like I was in the woods more than home. Not complaining, enjoyed every minute of the time in the outdoors. Noticed alot more waterfowl showing up. Seen loads iof geese flying around, and even a couple pair of buffleheads on a pond near Imlay City. Been a weird winter for me as far as seeing deer and turkeys. Loads of tracks, but not actually seeing the animals. No doubt as the days get a bit warmer and the grass greens they’ll be out in the fields.
Walked an interesting farm over near Emmett. 90+ acres, solid old farm home, decent barns, and loads of deer sign. Lots of tall grass for pheasants and rabbits and the neighbors have a couple large ponds which cause some good pass shooting for geese too. $230K for the whole 92 acre package, not bad.

Last year was our fiet stop at the Midland show and it was a blast. Talked to lots of folks, and enjoyed a terrific venue, very clean and well run show.

Rolling pasture up front, knarlly thickets and woods in the middle, and a long pond stretching nearly the length of the property. I also found out there is a creek in the middle of the woods. Took me quite a few inutes to get up the nerve to walk across the log that spanned the creek. Found a couple sticks to use for balance and slowly made my way across, only to slip stepping off the log and wind up face first on a muddy creek bank!! Ah well, least no one was around to see it.

Looked like something you’d see on National Geographic from Alaska. Made me shiver and I was just driving by in the truck.
Then just as we were pulling int o the town of Oscoda, we crossed the Ausable River. It was pretty much ice free, except for in the little canals and inlets where the boats dock in the summer. It was in one of these inlets, literally just a couple feet from open water of the river, we see two ice shanties. Amazing, thse guys were less than 10 feet from flowing river water. Sure hope they know what they were doing. Brrrrrrr to cold to make a mistake and take a plunge.

Well my son and a friend are out competing in the second annual Chrome Squirrel squirrel hunting contest today. Two man groups of hunters have until 4PM to try and fill their limit of squirrel. They then have to arrive for a weigh in at Eds Archery in Clio. Should be an interesting weigh in as prizes are awarded for the heaviest total weight and largest single squirrel taken for the day.
The boys headed out bright and early to the sign in at 5AM at the Big Boy in Clio. Later they reported that none other than Jennie Olsen from Michigan Outdoors TV was there and they’ll be seen on the show. That in itself was cool enough for them to get up so early on an off day from school.

Got to spend a bit of time exploring a listing I have over on Law Rd in Lapeer County. Walked around that one with a client yesterday. every time I spend some time over there it amazes me the amount of deer that use that parcel. Literally deer sign everywhere. The property has a large portion that is just flat excellent deer cover, thick, brushy and very secluded. However our walk yesterady brought out another spot I hadn’t even seen. About a 30 acre piece over on the east side that is likely some of the best deer land I’ve ever seen. Runways criss crossing around, fruit trees scattered throughout, and the whole place is set right smack dab in the middle of the parcel. Heck no doubt deer roam about that place for days and never see a person. I know for sure I’d be watching that little clearing if it were mine on opening day.
